Your reading notes will be part of your first official required academic assignment â an Annotated Bibliography.Great news! All the Annotated Bib readings also will be incorporated into your first major essay â the experiential essay on listening. All work serves a purpose for a graded writing project. As you read these three articles, please look for a story or statistic that may be a hook to start your essay. Note any information that is new or interesting to you. Remember you will be testing out in listening experiences what you are learning. The first essay you will write about listening focuses on your deliberate interaction with the material (evidence) and your experiences. What are your learning from the reading? How will you test out in personal experience what you have learned? When you share what you have learned with others, what do they think?Remember, every time you interact with the reading â taking notes, talking to others, sketching out what you have learned, creating an Annotated Bib, the material become part of you and thus the final essay will be easier to write. In week 3, you will be given more sources to read and annotate. The final Annotated Bib assignment requires seven sources. so redo them for your final product if necessary.Reminder: Your first essay requires you to connect with at least six of the required links. Some other advice:Be sure to keep your notes organized. If you take strong written notes on the first reading, you dont have to read againonly review your notes to write your final essay. Whenever you see page numbers, put that number in a ( ) within your notes.Keep a notes with that works best with your style a physical journal or a laptop file. Be sure to cite the sources carefully in the MLA style at the top of your notes. This information must be on the Annotated Bib AND the Works Cited page with your final essay.Hereâs the best web link to find out how to cite a source:londonessays.com you open this page you will a blue rectangle box that says How Do I Cite? If you click on that box you will see 11 different categories in a light gray box. These categories have a dotted blue list underneath. ]Hint: pay attention to these 2 categoriesâJournal Articles and Websites. When you click on a category you will see a very specific example of how to cite a source. This is a matter of careful matching. Now, to take notes on the reading. In the final annotated bib you must answer these questions in order. My example of an Annotated Bib follows this list:1. Type of source.2. Author and/or key people in the essay. In 5-7 words or less, who are these people? Nationality and occupation are often used.3. Summarize clearly the content of the source. You cannot do this without making a list of notes throughout the reading and then looking to condense the material into general themes.4. What was fascinating in the reading?5. Whatâs the best quote? Note the page and/or paragraph # if available. 6. Do you agree/disagree with the author?7. What can you practice from this information? You will have more notes than your Annotated Bib requiresâ¦.but remember all the notes make writing the final essay easier.
