At least two of these should be authors we’ve read since week 11; these include Wölfflin, Loos, Morgan, Trodd, Keep, and the chapters from Freeland, as well as the articles on art and AI. ( readings attached) (Also remember that using examples of specific works of art may help you to make your argument.)Choose ONE of the following topics: 1) Art (including architecture) can reflect society in a variety of ways. First (drawing on at least one of Wölfflin, Loos, and Morgan), explain how architecture expresses certain values in the construction of our built environment. Second, explain how art reflects or responds to social hierarchies, such as those relating to gender, race, or class. Finally, discuss whether and how art can challenge th
e status quo in society. 2) What should be the purpose of art? Draw on three of the authors we have read in this course (including at least two from the last portion of the course, from Wölfflin and Loos on) to defend your argument. (Note: you may want to argue either for or against these authors.)3) Give a philosophical analysis of a work of art. Choose one work of art (it can be a painting, sculpture, architectural work, photograph, song, film, or poem. Briefly explain what this work of art is – who the artist is, when it was made, what sort of art movement it might represent, if any, etc. Then analyze it from the philosophical perspective of THREE of the authors we have read, including at least two from the last portion of the course (from Wölfflin and Loos on).PLEASE NOTE: 1) Remember to engage closely with the texts we’ve read in class (readings attache). This is essential for writing a good paper. 2) DO NOT PLAGIARIZE. If you plagiarize you will get no credit for the assignment, and therefore will likely fail the course.
