In the video we watched on social media and the news, an editor for CNN Politics recommended the following strategy to diversify your perspective: âRead something you âvehemently disagreeâ with once a week. If youâre a die-hard MSNBC watcher, turn on FOX; if you like to watch Brietbart or Townhall, go listen to NPR for a day.For this weeks discussion, I would like you to pick one news source that generally presents a worldview with which you âvehemently disagreeâ and spend 20 minutes exploring their website (list of news sources are at the bottom of this assignment). Read the article headlines; look at the photos and layout; try to get a sense of that siteâs âfilter. Then choose ONE article to read from the site. When youre done exploring, share your experience with the class by answering the following questions:1. Which news source did you choose? What made you decide to choose this source?2. What was your impression of the content on this site? Was it what you expected?3. Did you learn/gain anything from this experience? Tell us what you learned/gained. And remember: as Aristotle said, âIt is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.â Educated (and confident/flexible) minds can handle looking at a v
iewpoint or opinion that differs from their own without extreme defensiveness or any internal meltdowns. Iâm not asking you to change your views, but simply to LOOK at a view that differs from your own.If your views on politics and current/world events tend to be more conservative or right-wing, here is a list of liberal-leaning news sources from which to choose: CNN, MSNBC, New York Times, Washington Post.If your views on politics and current/world events tend to be more liberal or left-wing, here is a list of conservative-leaning news sources: FOX, The Wall Street Journal, Breitbart, Washington Times. If you are neutral or somewhere in between these two viewpoints, divide your time online by exploring one liberal and one conservative site and then compare the two.If you need a review of the values of the primary political viewpoints (left vs. right) see pages 205-207 in our textbook.P.S. Yes, I know there are other political viewpoints out therelibertarian, green party, far-left, far-right, etc.but because our current political system in the U.S. generally gives us only two options to choose between in terms of voting (Democrat vs. Republican; Biden vs. Trump) I want you to stick with those for this assignment. When youre done posting, please respond to at least ONE other student in class.
