Your essay should be typed, 4-pages double spaced in 12-point font, with 1-inch margins on all sides.
Additional instructions: You may use parenthetical citations when directly quoting lectures or
lecture modules, eg. (Alvarez, Week 7 Lecture); course readings, eg. (Villavicencio, 65); or films,
eg. (Walkout). You do not need a works cited page and you do not need to consult sources
beyond the course materials. You will be evaluated based on your ability to address all aspects
of the prompt, as well as your success in engaging the debates, themes, and issues raised in
course materials. In addition, the clarity of your argument, presentation, and ability to follow
these directions will figure in your grade. Good luck!!!
THE UNDOCUMENTED AMERICANS: In her book, The Undocumented Americans, author
Karla Cornejo Villavicencio writes powerfully and poignantly about the lives of ordinary
undocumented immigrants in New York, Miami, Flint, Cleveland, and New Haven. In your
view, what is the most important lesson The Undocumented Amer
icans offers our
understanding of Chicanx, Latinx, and/or immigrant experiences in the U.S.? As you make
your case, be sure to consider the following questions: Why do you think Villavicencio
wrote this book? Why do you think she decided NOT to write about DREAMers or DACA?
Is there a chapter or character that stands out to you? Which one and Why? Is there a
historical moment or example from lecture that helps you understand the book? Which
one and why? Did reading this book change your mind or reinforce your existing position
on any aspect related to immigration? Which one and why? Your key materials may
include The Undocumented Americans, lectures, slides, and lecture modules since Week
9, The State of Arizona, and Sleep Dealer.
The book that you need for the source is chp 4-5, and I have them screenshot in order from 1 to 11.
I also will attach my lecture slide.
