Your answers should not be comprised of summary. Summary should be very minimal. Your essays should be an analysis of the text, well beyond a literal interpretation. Summary essays will receive significant point deductions.
Some prompts contain MULTIPLE questions. Be sure to answer each question.
Use the texts and module resources. It may be helpful to print them or have them open in another window to easily access while taking the quiz. Do not use any outside sources.
You MUST use three pieces of textual evidence in EACH essay response. Be sure to use proper quotation marks and in-text citations. I do not require you to include a works cited page.
Do NOT use internet sources or work with someone else in the class. Your assignment submission will be run through Turnitin.com which is a plagiarism software. Turnitin will cross check your papers against anything posted on the web and against all other submissions in the class. Turnitin will then notify me of any similarities. Any plagiarism will result in a 0/F on the entire quiz without an opportunity for makeup.
Feel free to utilize some of your ideas that you posted in the discussion board, but you should not copy/paste your discussion response answers into your quiz essay.
Please follow directions for downloading, completing, and submitting the quiz.
If you deviate from the specific instructions, points will be deducted. This includes completing your essays on the Word document I provide in Canvas.
If grammar, syntax, diction, and/or punctuation errors significantly interrupt your writing, significant points will be deducted. The American Literature course standards do not cover grammar and writing. These should have been mastered in English Composition II. Your essay responses should reflect a in-depth reading of the texts. I realize that it is very easy to access overviews and summaries of the texts we are reading in class. Your responses should not just focus on the Βhigh pointsΒ of the text. You should focus on details that these common summary websites do not include.
Each essay question requires a MINIMUM of 3 well developed paragraphs ( each paragraph must be at least 12-15 sentences each). Not meeting this requirement will result in a loss of points.
Textual evidence should be provided in all essay responses and most importantly, should include an in-text citations. Lack of in-text citations indicate plagiarism. You must properly quote or cite. Failing to do this will result in a significant loss of points.
