The purpose of this assignment is for you to create an action plan to increase the power of the nursing profession within your community and to devise strategies for building a personal power base. Your paper should address the following:
Discuss how Huston’s six driving forces affect nursing’s power base.
Create an action plan for increasing the power of the nursing profession in your community. Explain how you have decided to define your community for the purposes of the action plan. Address each of the seven criteria in Display 13.3, “Action Plan for Increasing the Power of the Nursing Profession.”
Devise at least two specific strategies that you can use for building a personal power base. Your strategies should be geared toward your individual goals and situation.
If you are in a leadership role, provide two examples of how you leverage your power and authority within the organization using the list from Display 13.1 in the textbook. If you’re not in a leadership role, provide two examples of how you might leverage that power and authority if you were in a leadership role.
Your paper should be 1250 to 1750 words (5 to 7 pages, double-spaced), excluding the references. Use a minimum of five sources and cite them using APA format.
Note: I am not in the leadership role. I have been working as a registered nurse in a hospital for 2 years now, so I am still quite fresh. I work on the obstetrics & gynecology unit and take care of pregnant patients (mainly high risk pregnancy), patients who had surgeries to their female reproductive organs, and those who gave birth (often prematurely). The hospital is in one of the biggest cities in my state and the community is very diverse. There are all kinds of patients of different backgrounds, race, religion, ethinicity, socio-economic status, insured, uninsured; but as I said, I only take care of women, however, family members are often present and involved in patient’s care. I have a nursing license and degree in nursing but working toward my BSN degree. You can wrtie about anything you want, if you have any questions you can always ask me.
