Text for the three quizzes: Psalm 31:19-24
Assignment: Prepare a 3-page essay on the passage above, which roughly breaks down into 2 verses per page. This is similar to the essay we did at the beginning of the school year. The information in italics is taken from that assignment. It should help clarify what Im looking for.
Prepare a theological reflection that expresses the authors intent (or meaning) of the passage you chose for the scripture memory assignment. Your essay should explore the six verses above and should clearly convey what you believe the author meant, or was trying to communicate, through that portion of the passage. Please understand that this is not a what I think the passage means assignment. Every verse in the Bible has one interpretation, just one. While some passages are difficult to interpret, which leads to multiple opinions about what it means, there is only one intended meaning, which is what every faithful Bible student seeks the Holy Spirit intended meaning of the verse. There may be many applicati
ons of a passage, but there is only one interpretation.
To discern the authors intent, you will need to thoroughly and prayerfully read and reflect upon your passage. You may also need to compare it to other passages of Scripture (often called parallel passages) and consult Bible commentaries and/or dictionaries. Online resources such as sermons or articles can also be helpful. Please note: If you quote from another author or utilize another authors opinions, you must give them credit and produce a works cited page.
Again, although there is only one interpretation, there are endless possibilities for personal application of the passage to our lives. Your essay should also communicate how this passage applies to your life (think of practical ways the passage can impact the way you actually live). Educate the reader on how this passage can help Christians in their daily living. As always, remember this: CONTEXT IS KING.
