Please make sure you have a plan for 2 to 5 hours of work for your students and your plan is clearly laid out using the prompts below.
You will use your Google Classroom shell to communicate with your students, provide assignments, and share resources. This work should dovetail with the work you have been doing in your classroom. Please use the features of the Google applications to touch base with students (formative assessments) and to have them create, write, record, produce something to which you can attach a summative grade.
Below is the form I would like you to complete that outlines what you will do. I understand it is a starting point toward the creation of an online learning experience. I may ask you some guiding questions or seek out a little clarification through my comments.
The total time students spend engaged with this activity should not total more than 5 hours and can be finished back in the classroom if necessary.
Topic: Distance Formula
What do you want students to know (or which skills do you want to reinforce) after completing the unit? SWBAT
1. Students will understand that the distance formula is derived from the Pythagorean theorem.
2. students will be able to use and apply the distance formula to find the distance between two coordinate points.
students will use GeoGebra to find the distance between two points on the coordinate plane. Students will first understand that the distance formula is derived from the Pythagorean theorem. students will be able to use and apply the distance formula to find the distance between two coordinate points.
[Optional] What shoul
d I know about your students (for example, have they already read the book, are they in the middle of a longer unit, are there special challenges with this group?)
?
Anticipatory Set (Engage)
Do you want to start with a web page, a video introduction you create, a video on the topic, a Google Tourbuilder, a low-stakes quiz, or something else?
I will start with a video from study.com and after watching the video students will take a short quiz.
Video used: https://study.com/academy/lesson/how-to-use-the-distance-formula.html
Direct Instruction (Explore)
How will you directly teach the topic or how will you let students explore? Will you create a web page? What sort of task will you provide to them? Will you have them collaborate online?
I will record the lesson, then ask students to work on a GeoGebra activity.
Activity I created for this lesson:

Guided Practice (Explain)
How will you give students the opportunity to develop skills or master concepts?
How will you assess their understanding as they work through the tasks? This is often called a ΒformativeΒ assessment.
Independent Practice (Elaborate)
What sort of activity will you provide that allows students to practice and develop skills independently?
[Optional] Since students do not have to work in isolation, what sort of collaborative activity might you provide?
Summative Assessment (Evaluate)
Remember, there are many ways to assess skills besides through quizzes and worksheets.
How will you assess mastery of the topic/concept?
[Optional] What challenges do you expect to have with this last part?
