My research question is: How does playing violent video games contribute to the recent rise in school shootings?
You can make my question more concise.
Now that you have selected a topic, read, and critiqued multiple articles, you are now ready to develop your hypothesis (or hypotheses). Your hypothesis(es) should be a concise and well-informed prediction of what you expect to find in a study that explores your research question.
Testable and Falsifiable: It should be capable of being empirically tested and measured. You should not state how it will be measured at this time as that will be discussed later in the Method section of your proposal. However, it does need to be something that can be measured!
Replicable and Precise: Consider the presumed causes and outcomes with your hypothesis. Also, consider how you could make it precise enough for someone else to reproduce it.
Interesting and Novel: Extend the previous research! Do not simply hypothesize what others have already found.
Parsimonious: Keep it clear and concise with a simple explanation. Make sure it is a statement, not a question.
A Prediction: Write it in the future tense, because you are proposing it before you conduct your study.
When writing your initial post, make sure that it ties together your research question along with how you arrived at your hypothesis/hypotheses. Plan to incorporate the following:
Your hypothesis is only one or two sentences, but you need to briefly address the background research supporting this hypothesis. For each sentence of your hypothesis, plan to write a paragraph explanation on the background research.
Cite at least one empirical research study in your background information. You may cite one article or more from your previous assignments and/or and you may reference additional articles that you have read and/or summarized.
Include the references for any articles you cite. Both the citation in the text and your reference list needs to be written using APA format.
