In this assignment you will write your own myth and also write a commentary on it.
The Story (25%):
Write a mythological narrative of 400 Β– 750 words.
You can choose just to tell a story, or you could, for example, write a summary of a movie treatment.
You could choose an ancient mythological character or situation/plot and update it for the modern world, or just create your own like Plato did, using mythological motifs, plot elements, and the (historical) traditions of his own and other cities.
The important point, however, is that you should not just string together a random series of events or create only a fantasy story. Your mythological treatment should address the issues that ancient mythological narratives address, for example: an aetiology, telling a story that comments on contemporary history or political situations, telling a story that addresses social or familial issues and concerns, or a story that po

nders the meaning and limits of human achievement (?immortality).
We will judge the essay based on the coherence and richness of your treatment. The more motifs and issues you include that we have talked about, the better.
The Commentary (15%):
You should write a commentary on your myth. It should be no less than 150 and no more than 400 words.
In your commentary you should imagine that you are interpreting your myth for other students in the class. You should explain the reason for your choices: what themes the story represents, what issues it addresses, what motifs it employs. Think also about using the strategies of myth interpretation to which you have been exposed?
You may even want to talk about Β“alternateΒ” versions
I would kindly ask you to write/create a myth based on the attached file below (the Trojan War). No citations needs and no particular format. Please seperate the story and the commentary portions.
