Hi,
I need responses to these discussions post for EBP in nursing research. I am posting the 2 discussion post I chose, from 2 different people. Each discussion response must be 250 words. The agreements, disagreements, and ideas must be backed up with at least one peer review source/article. The book we used for this class is (Polit, D.F., & Beck, C.T. (2022). Essentials of nursing research: Appraising evidence for nursing practice (10th ed). Wolters Kluwer. ), it must not be used as a reference to answer the posts. Thank you
Discussion post 1:
1. Why is research necessary in nursing, and why is there a need for evidence-based practice. What are the levels of evidence and hierarchy?
Research and evidence-based practices are essential in nursing because they help ensure patients receive optimal care that causes little to no harm. Their involvement in the nursing profession provides nurses with guidelines to make informed and appropriate decisions. The importance stems from incorporating evidence into practice to improve the efficiency of said practice (Yonkaitis, 2018). The levels of evidence and hierarchy determine which evidence is superior in rank to each other. It defines which evidence would provide the best quality-based research that would result in the most acceptable outcomes for the patient (Beck & Polit, 2022).
2. How does the acronym PICO help develop well-worded questions that facilitate a search for evidence?
PICO directs health professionals to develop well-worded questions within four components: population or patient, intervention or influence, comparison of said intervention, and outcome. It uses general questions to obtain critical information starting with the patient. Relevancy is essential when determining helpful information. Reviewing related interventions and comparing them with others determines the situations most appropriate evidence that leads to the desired outcome (Beck & Polit, 2022). The use of general and specific questions encourages health professionals to investigate for information on which they could base their practice or research. It establishes a care plan individualized to the patients current situation while using past evidence and practices to develop ideal treatment methods.

Discussion post 2:
1. What is the importance of nursing research? Nursing research is a designed systematic inquiry that involves evidence about clinical issues among nurses and clients (Polit & Beck, 2022). Research is important in nursing because it opens doors for practitioners to learn evidence-based studies. The research includes questions from practice problems and assists practitioners by recognizing nursing decisions in evidence. Evidence-based practice (EBP) is a problem-solving strategy that utilizes a nurses clinical expertise, patient preferences and values, and best evidence (Polit & Beck, 2022). EBP is important because it is based on gathering information from nurses and health care professionals in conducting a specific study, and finding client outcomes, and decisions.
There are 8 levels of evidence and hierarchy (Polit & Beck, 2022). Here is the list of each level (Polit & Beck, 2022):
Level 1-Systematic review/meta-analysis of RCTs
Level 2-Randomized controlled trial (RCT)
Level 3-Nonrandomized trial (quasi-experiment)
Level 4-Systematic review of nonexperimental (observational) studies
Level 5-Nonexperimental/observational study
Level 6-Systematic review/meta-synthesis of qualitative studies
Level 7-Qualitative study/descriptive study
Level 8-Nonresearch source
2. PICO is a common acronym for evidence-based studies. P stands for population or patients, and it focuses on the characteristics of patients. The acronym I stands for intervention, and it covers interest and determines if the intervention was beneficial or harmful. C stands for community and comparison is used for the intervention. O stands for the outcome (Polit & Beck, 2022). PICO is a useful tool that assists practitioners to formulate clinical questions in research (Polit & Beck, 2022). PICO is used as a template that provides specific questions and helps researchers gather informations that is beneficial in health care practices (Polit & Beck, 2022).
