Getting Started
For this discussion board, start to think about and then develop two research problems (AKA problem statements). Once you develop these two research problems you will post in the discussion board in order to get feedback from the other students. At least one of these research problems that you decide to focus on will most likely be the foundation for the following SWK662 course.
Your research problem must be derived from your literature review. After reading the research problem, the reader will know why you are proposing to do this study. You need to convince the reader that this study must be done. Your proposed study will answer some part of a social work problem in a unique and clever way. For example, if my research problem is college students who struggle with anxiety and stress then my problem statement could be:
College student anxiety and stress are two critical factors negatively affecting colleges today. When the semester gets going many students are experiencing anxiety and stress, and these issues significantly affect their school work and overall life. Many parents are not aware of the devastating effects of anxiety and stress, and many college campuses do not have any formal mechanisms
in place to help these students.
At this point, it would be most advantageous to form your research problems around a population of clients that you already work or intern with. For example, if you are currently working or interning in an agency that helps adolescent females struggling with mental health issues, then you would most likely want to craft your research problems around this population and agency.
Upon successful completion of this discussion, you will be able to:
Analyze quantitative and qualitative research methods and research findings (PLO 4; ILO 6)
Synthesize information from a variety of sources to purposefully plan and develop a research practice focus (PLO 4; ILO 6)
