After you have read Chapter/Lecture 6: Biogeography
Actions
,
Pick at least one of the concepts/ideas/terms (your choice!) found within the lecture/reading and locate, or take, a picture (or short video if you prefer) that demonstrates that concept in the real world. You are welcome to discuss multiple concepts/ideas/terms and use multiple images, but the minimum requirement is one. You may include a picture you have recently taken, previously taken, or an image/photograph you find and download online (i.e. ones you have not personally taken). A lot of these concepts you can find in, or just outside, your home so, I will award 2 points extra credit if you take and include an image that you have personally taken (i.e. in the real world and not from an online source or a picture of an online source). If you need help and/or want to show me pictures to see if they qualify, do not hesitate to contact me. Please note that diagrams or graphs do not qualify. You can include diagrams and graphs as supplementary images (i.e. additional images) but again, you need to primarily discuss a picture that depicts the concept in the real world.
Once you have your image, post it for your peers and instructor to view and include a caption (200-word minimum) that tells us:
The source of the image, i.e. where and when the photograph was taken (or where it was downloaded from). See Step 4 below rega
rding citations.
The concept or idea or term in the lecture/reading that the photograph represents. Describe the process(es) and/or concepts and how they are demonstrated or occurring in the picture. In other words, how does this image represent a specific concept, and what is this concept? Be specific. I am looking for you to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding based on what youΒve learned from the course materials.
Need help including the image in your post? See this resource.
Lastly, if you use any resources in your post or reply (including the reading/lecture) be sure to cite them in MLA format. If you are not familiar with MLA format please see this handout. If you are using general information from a source, then simply adding the citation at the end of your post in a ΒWorks CitedΒ section is sufficient. If you are using a direct quote (i.e. copying and pasting any portion of a source directly), then you must use quotation marks AND parenthetical citations in the text, as well as adding the citation to the end of your post. Use quotations sparingly. Responses that are quote-after-quote do not demonstrate your knowledge or understanding and will be marked down. The general rule of thumb is to aim for 20% or less (I highly suggest keeping it around 10%) of direct quotes in any assignment. Note that citations are separate from the minimum word count requirements.
