Respond to this student based on what you wrote:In regards to the GL competency pyramid model, it is clear that Blake possesses very strong interpersonal skills. He is able to communicate effectively not only with his audience, but his employees and partners. I believe it is his authenticity and openness that makes him such a great communicator. In addition, Blake has been able to develop and maintain multicultural teams. Made up of people who would have not worked together previously. Such as his employees that transferred over from Goldman Sachs and Patagonia. Who all came together for one reason, to make a difference through giving. Also, these diverse teams have learned to appreciate and understand other cultures through these shoe-drops which allow them to get down on their hand and knees and interact with those they are helping. Next, Blake also seems to place an emphasis on trust building. He is extremely transparent about why the business is a for-profit as opposed to a charity. He wants his customers to trust his intentions, and realize that he is not trying to get rich. Instead, he is ensuring that business continues to grow in years to come. Next, it is evident that has very strong threshold traits. In regards to integrity, he is an open book. Again, as shown by his openness when discussing the companys for-profit status. In regards to humility, he is extremely humble and is not afraid of getting his hands dirty. As shown by his many trips to remote villages overseas. Also, I would like to add that during the interview he made it
very clear that it was not about him. It was about TOMS, the brand and mission. I would assume that he is resilient, given that he did claim to be an entrepreneur. Lastly, he is quite inquisitive. This is evident by his willingness to ask others if they are willing to help, if they are willing to make a difference. Next, Blake has very strong system skills. Firstly, he has built a community that transcends the workplace. Through his TV ads and events (walking without shoes for a day) he has brought together copious individuals from all backgrounds for one common purpose. That being said, Blakes business is built on ethics and morals it only makes sense that he would institute ethical decision making. This can be shown by his partnerships with companies and organizations that want to make a difference, as opposed to just making a profit. In regards to his managerial roles. Blake is a leader. He motivates his team not only to make sales, but to practice what they preach. Given that, 2-year employees are offered a chance to go on these infamous shoe drops. Blake is an innovator. Due to the fact, that TOMS is a groundbreaking new idea. Not to mention, Blake continues to promote his vision for TOMS. He wants TOMS to be a company that continues to give shoes to children in need. Also, Blake is able to seize opporturtunites as evident by his ability to convince Microsoft to provide TOMS with millions of dollars of free advertisement. Furthermore, Blake is a spokesperson. As shown by ability to advocate and represent the organization both: on and off the screen.
