Over the course of the semester, you will develop and submit an MIS strategy document based on your analysis of data in a hypothetical data warehouse that you will logically define as part of your project. It is up to you to pick the type of organization and economic sector that you want to use for your project (although you may NOT pick the containerized cargo industry since were seeing that one in class). The organization you pick can be real or hypothetical. You have to pick an organizations perspective even though most of your analysis and modeling will end up being about the entire economic sector within which that organization operates. An analysis of just the economic sector alone wouldnt make sense in this class since it is at the organization level that management information systems are discussed, designed, and operated.Submit the following in the assignment text box: a) the name of your real or hypothetical organization, and b) the economic sector within which that organization is being seen to operate. This assignment has no point value, but must be resubmitted until the instructor has marked it âCompleteâ in order to ensure that the organization and sector are of the correct types and of appropriate complexity to be successful as a project in this class. The essence of this semester project is that you will be defining an MIS capability that allows the organization to design and execute effective management controls relative to activities and events that might occur throughout the economic sector within which the organization is being managed. This one project builds up over the course of five different subsequent assignments, each adding an additional chapter to the submission from the prior. The five assignments culminate in a 5-chapter document:Stocks & FlowsSubject Areas & Data SourcesData WarehouseDashboards & ScorecardsFindings & RecommendationsAn acceptable project must demonstrate:Professional Presentation The project uses a clean consistent organizational structure, sound academic writing style, and an effective balance of text and figures.Project Soundness The presented discussion includes all required themes, including the appropriate description and summarization of the required application domain for the technologyâs use.Comprehensive Coverage The project includes a complete and thorough coverage of the subject matter, as would be expected by someone already knowledgeable about technical topical area.Scholarly Grounding The project materials are well grounded in the academic and public literature of the field, and those resources are synthesized and paraphrased into the project appropriately.
