Essay Rough Draft 1
Rhetorical Analysis on Gun Violence
4
The basic history and background information is that there is no question that there is long been a huge issue with gun violence and gun control laws in America be it in the inner cities or the uptick with the gaudy amount of mass shootings in schools and the like. Theres easily an opportunity to control guns with stricter laws and better background checks.
I chose this text because Im very passionate about this issue and can see the big picture that this is a very real issue in America. I wanted to understand why all the sudden are there so many people filled with hate and a passion to kill and injury people with these guns especially when this wasnt as big of an issue some 50 years ago.
The writer is an assistant strategy professor at UCLA that has done research on gun control and how if any actual change occurs from congress after a mass shooting event. The Author has no bias to any group or organization to influence his way of writing this particular article. I believe the author is showing that congress doesnt do anything of merit right after these tragic events in fact they actual lessen some restrictions on gun laws.
I believe the audience of this writing is the American people that want to know what happens after mass shooting evens and what are the steps congress and law makers are taking to make sure these types of events are a thing of the past. The sole audience are the American voters that take the polls that show over 48% of Americans wants gun control and stricter laws not to mention all the families that have and will be affecte
d by this if something isnt done.
The argument is clear that law makers arent doing anything to change the outcome and issues in American that put stress and fear into the American people with not only not doing enough to change it, but research has shown loosening of the gun laws at that.
The rhetorical argument is great because it shows actual research that has ramped up since 2014 by some very smart people that shows that there are many differences of opinions on this issue that both sides of the law makers are choosing different issues that may be the cause of these events. Bottom line is, if no one will agree to disagree and figure out that we just need to act instead of standing by and not doing anything besides making it easier for the detractors to do what they are already doing. I feel that the argument was well written, and the author succeeded in showing that there is still a huge issue and a lot to be done around gun violence and controlling the gun laws.
The writer chooses to publish this article in an informative research blog about current destruction of gun violence. The informative genre does fit the message because he helps the audience better understand how there is always a big, missed opportunity to make changes after mass shootings and unspeakable events by law makers.
