Consider the numbers 3, 6 and 12, what do you find to be the significance of these numbers?
When I watched the video of the Ted Talk, I did not realize how much on key Steve Howard was within the accuracy of the numbers. 3 billion people by 2030, 6. 6 degrees Celsius global warming and 12. cities that have a million people (Howard, 2013). I believe that sustainability has more to do with the ability of how to use the resources that we already have. Companies, such as mine, do recycle the cardboard that is used. As Howard also mentioned that sustainability is a must do, and that it is also a compromise (Howard, 2013). We are more apt to take from our environment than we are at giving back. I also noticed the expression on the childrens faces in the video. When the teacher was either explaining or demonstrating a teaching lesson to the children, they were either amazed or shocked by what was being shown to them. A good leader will understand how sustainability works and what the company needs to do to incorporate a sustainability plan into
the companies procedures. It is not easy to teach this generation how to preserve what we have when they are used to everything being disposable. Companies need to set the example by making new products that can be reused and incorporating that into their business plan while still making a living.
Research and share an additional resource related to sustainable leadership:
The article that I chose to research is on the attributes of a sustainable leader. In the article, the author tells us that The development of sustainable leadership enables the achievement of the expected performance and problem solving related to organizational demands, challenges, and identified opportunities (Osagie et al., 2016), contributing to the creation of a more critical, innovative, and reflexive culture that constantly questions principles (Borgert, Petrini & Santos, 2020). The article also states that alignment with the organizational culture, managers understand sustainability as being part of the culture of the organization they work for, belonging to it and identifying with it (Borgert, Petrini & Santos, 2020). I do believe that if a corporation hires a good manager, with strong values and morals, they will understand what sustainability means to the corporation and train the employees the proper way to follow through with maintaining those values.
