OBJECTIVE
To explain how you will satisfy the original data analysis component of your Senior Capstone Project.
DELIVERABLE
For this discussion, you will begin drafting methodology information to tell your classmates what kind of primary research tool you are using to capture data, or what data you are analyzing from someone else’s original research, how, and why.
CONTEXT
Each Senior Capstone Project is supposed to reflect some kind of original or primary research analysis by students, for example, of:
an audience demographics analysis for a speech (Option 3); or
Remember, primary research reflects an original investigation. It means you are gathering data from sources of raw material (such as people or original experimentation).
Secondary research is comprised of material that others have written (about their primary research). To understand the significance of the difference, please watch:
For example, if you were to test fish for mercury content to replicate the findings of a research study on how to ameliorate mercury contamination in water, that would be primary research. Even if you interview the scientist who tested the fish for its mercury content, that interview data would constitute primary research. However, if you read the scientist’s published study on mercury in fish, that would be secondary research.

Interviews and surveys have much in common in that you are gathering specific information from the original source to use for specified purposes. Your tools for both forms of data collection are similar: They each consist of a purpose statement and a list of questions.
For the interview, your questions may be broad and open-ended. For the survey tool (questionnaire), you are likely to have more close-ended questions so that you will be able to ga

ther the information more consistently.
This is a good resource for designing survey questions.
You might also review how to design a survey and how to read a research study in the material posted under the links to Assignments & Resources > Senior Capstone Project Toolkit > Additional Resources in the classroom table of contents.
STEPS
1. Begin your response by orienting your readers to the general goal of your project. Identify the project option that you are pursuing and its research question or topic.
2. Describe how you will handle original data analysis for your project by:
Summarizing the approach you are taking for this step of your project, and why you are doing so, in paragraphs written well enough that they could be used in the project.
Or,
Posting a draft of your interview questionnaire or survey or poll tool (consisting of purpose statement and list of questions) and explaining its purpose. What are you trying to reveal?
Or,
Summarizing the raw data that you have gathered from a research organization’s research database, such as Carnegie-Knight Research Data, ICPRS Research Data, Pew Research Center Survey Data, or U.S. Census Bureau Demographic Data, and explaining what you want to confirm. Remember to properly source the data.
Or,
If you plan to try and replicate or analyze data published in an academic journal’s study, explain what data you plan to use from the journal, how, and why. This is your chance to begin drafting the methodology information for your projects. Remember to properly source the journal.
3. Solicit critiques or input from your classmates. What are you struggling with
Im doing an executive speach on Epilpsey Awarness. I want to target support goops to help and start groups in black/ brown communites that dont have the full support that other may have.
Attached is what I already have. Please try to focus onthe CALL to ACTION of the executive speech.
