Write a 200-250-word response for each of the following questions below. Be sure to use textual evidence from the readings to support your statements. This initial response needs to be posted by the due date listed on the calendar for this assignment.
Then, after you have posted your initial response, you need to respond to at least three of your classmates responses. These responses need only be 75-125 words each and must be posted by 6/13 at 11:59pm.
In order to get full credit (all 50 points) in the discussion for each module, you need to be actively participating throughout the module. In other words, avoid simply logging on one day and responding to 3 people and then no longer participating the rest of the time. Im really looking for you to participate in the beginning, middle, and end of the module.
Read the Discussion Rubric at the end of the policies and procedures document to ensure that your responses follow the guidelines that I am requiring.
1. We all, likely, have multiple places in which we work: read, think, and write. Professor Kreuterwhose article you will read shortlywrites about the importance and impact of these physical and social writing environments. What Id like you to do is reflect on and capture the key features of your reading and writing spaces and their impact on your process and product. Here are possible features that you may reflect on and share with the rest of the class:
Where and when do you typically write and read? There can be multiple places and times identified: For example, kitchen table in afternoon, desk in bedroom in early morning, floor in livin
g room if no one is home in afternoon; table in Kirk Center when Im having lunch, quiet room in the library between my 2:00 and 3:00 class, table at the coffee shop if I get to campus before 8:30; break room or in my car on days I work a double shift.
What is typically happening around you in each of these environments? In other words, describe your surroundings: other people (pets), noises, smells, temperature, interruptions (maybe close your eyes and picture the last major essay you wrote~Im serious, try it ).
Do you have any ritualsthings you have to do before or as you read and write? A favorite pen? a clean desk? a can of Pringles nearby? a stop at Dutch Bros. before you start? a change into your stretchy pants?
Are your typical reading and writing spaces ones that help or hinder you from producing high-quality writing?
You may not be able to control all the variables in your environment, but is there anything you could change that might improve the quality of your reading comprehension and writing?
2. After reading Writing Environments Download Writing Environments by Nate Kreuter, write a 200-250 word response to each of the prompts below:
Describe what you find most notable, or interesting about your reading and writing environment/s and share the new insights you have about the impact the environment (and the rituals/routines you perform in the environment) has on your writing process and final product. In other words, explain what in your environment helps and/or hinders you.
Explain what changes you might make to your space/rituals in order to improve your reading and writing?
