4: Discuss three reasons why the
following study is unethical. Use specific information from the Khan and
Sharps (2021): Research Methods to answer this question. Answer in 6-9 sentences. (10 points)
Dr. Jones is a professor who teaches the only Sociology 101 course
at Randolph University (RU). She creates a survey about drug use and
gives it to all of her students as an assignment. She tells them that
the survey is mandatory, but that she will protect their identities. She
publishes the findings in an article without getting IRB approval.
Although she keeps students names confidential, she states in her
article that the data comes from students in the Sociology 101 course at
RU. Other RU professors who have these students in their classes read
the article and are angry with them. These professors, who oppose drug
use, punish these students by giving them extra work to do and grading
their work harshly.
5: Scenario: At one point, researchers found that
children who listened to classical music (such as Mozart) while they
were very young later performed better in sc
hool. Public officials
became very excited about this finding, and some states set aside funds
to buy children classical music CDs, arguing that it would make children
smarter. However, researchers later found that listening to classical
music didnt make kids do better in school. However, kids from wealthy
families were more likely to hear classical music at home (since people
with higher incomes listen to more classical music), and kids from
wealthy families are also more likely to do well in school.
The scenario above illustrates which key term from Khan and Sharps
(2021) Research Methods. Key terms are listed on pages 6, 11, 20, 24,
